After what could have been a 7 hours -turned- 12 hours VIP sleeper night bus journey from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, during which the toxicity from the Amoxicillin drug I ingested accidentally took its full effect on me. Due to the severe allergic reactions brewing in my body, I felt extremely sick when I arrived Luang Prabang at 4am during the wee hours.
I was so glad to be stubborn since I refused to take the unlabeled antibiotics from the local hospital after the accident. It was when my wounds started to feel worse and infection with high fever running on the night I left Vang Vieng for Luang Prabang, that left me with no choice but to take the unlabeled antibiotics before boarding the overnight sleeper bus.
Never did I expect that to be a nightmare for allergic reactions. I kept wandering why I had motion sickness while puking my lungs out the whole time on the road, because I never had motion sickness before in my life while I was young. Since I knew it will only be one night on the road and one night in Luang Prabang city itself before my flight home initially, I didn’t give much thought to it.
Arriving shriveled and dry from puking in the early morning, I slept my way through to the next morning in a hotel that I pre-booked for two nights. I wished I had more time to explore Luang Prabang as it was such a beautiful city, but my health did not allow me to do so.

Nevertheless, after some much needed rest, I dressed up in the morning and hired my private Tuk Tuk and headed off to explore the famous Kuang Si Falls of Luang Prabang in Laos. In addition to the waterfalls, I also included a quick visit to Tat Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre right beside the waterfalls.

It was a magnificent morning well spent there before my flight home to Singapore on the same evening. Going to the falls actually made me feel a teeny weeny bit better from the allergic reaction that I did not realize until later.
As usual, I’ll let the pictures do the talking next. My only regret is I couldn’t dive into the falls and enjoy soaking in it during those lazy mornings due to my injured finger and fever.

Eventually, after my epic Laos trip, I was swiftly sent to the hospital back home in Singapore upon arrival at the airport. And no, the flight home from Luang Prabang to Singapore was not a joyride either. It was a complete nightmare as I could not even keep water down and my bronchial systems started to swell.
Allergic reactions to antibiotics containing Amoxicillin can kill. But hey, I’m alive and well with another story to tell now. 10/10 would travel to Laos again for an epic adventure like this. But no, 100% would not ingest any form of medication from that country ever again. Till next time!
