Last year in March, I decided to reward myself with a belated Birthday trip. I threw myself overseas alone again; this time in Laos. After an early breakfast plus morning flights with a long transit in Kuala Lumpur, I have finally arrived in Luang Prabang at about 1.30pm.

I decided to head towards the secluded and bombastic city of Phonsavan due to time constraints, hence an imminent purchase of the evening VIP backpackers sleeper bus to Phonsavan was highly unavoidable. 50,000 Laotion Kip and a VIP sleeper bus ticket for 5pm in the evening later, I had a quarter day left to catch a glimpse of Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang is quaint yet bustling like the perfect blend of Ying and Yang; chaos and tranquility. Guided by my friendly tuk tuk driver Khamlar, we made an accidental discovery along Say Namkam Riverbanks – local village life.

A brief stroll through the local Luang Prabang bazaar and market; plus multiple desperate attempts to capture The Royal Palace later (the Royal Palace was closed), it was time to board the 7 hours VIP sleeper bus from Luang Prabang to Phonsavan.

I only wished that I had more time in Luang Prabang then. It was a glimpse of the raw and unprecedented natural beauty of Laos.
